

Catherine M. (Hames) McWeeney, formerly of Sparrows Point II, died Friday, at Saint Elizabeth's Home, in East Greenwich. She was the wife of the late John G. McWeeney, former State Senator and Democratic Party Chairman during the 1960's. During this time she enjoyed attending the Democratic National Convention and was honored to have attended President John F. Kennedy's Inaugural Ball. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Martin and Lillian Hames. She was a sales clerk for the Party Store in Warwick, for 15 years, until her retirement. Catherine was a resident of Warwick for 25 years, until moving to East Greenwich, 14 months ago. Catherine was a strong and fiercely independent woman who put her family before all else. Honesty, integrity, and fair-play were her cornerstones. She was survived by her two sons, Donald J. McWeeney, and his wife Diane, of Cranston, Michael T. McWeeney, and his wife Lee Ann, of East Greenwich. She was the mother of the late John R. McWeeney and the late Marie A. Kent. Catherine leaves four grandchildren Lisa I. Sullivan and her husband Frank, Kristen M. Jenkins and her husband Joseph, Garrett J. McWeeney, and Michael S.D. McWeeney. Catherine also had four great grandchildren, Owen and Brendan Sullivan, and Kiley and Braden Jenkins.. She is survived by sisters Marie H. Lavoie, of South Kingstown, and Rita L. Petrarca, of Cranston. She was predeceased by her brothers William J. and Francis M. Hames. Catherine will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, at 10:00 am from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road (Rt. 117) Warwick, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in Saint Gregory the Great Church, Cowesett Road, Warwick. Burial will be in Saint Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket. Visiting hours, Monday, 4-7pm.
