Charles "Chuck" Johnston

PawtucketCharles "Chuck" Johnston, 88, of Pawtucket, passed away Saturday at Elmhurst Extended Care. He was the beloved husband of Julia Ann "Joan" (Hickey) Johnston for the past fifty-two years.Born in Drogheda, County Louth, Ireland on 11/11/1928, he was a son of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Callaghan) Johnston.Chuck was a professional thoroughbred race horse trainer for many years and was well known and respected throughout the New England area. He also worked for the Pawtucket Housing Authority for several years before retiring in 1995.He was a communicant of Saint Maria Goretti Parish, Pawtucket, and a former member of the Ireland 32 Society.In addition to his wife Joan, he leaves a son, Brien C. Johnston and his wife Carolyn; a daughter, Fiona E. Craft and her husband Christopher; and six grandchildren, Brien, Corbin, Hailey, Aiden, Lydia and Declan. He was a brother of the late Thomas Johnston, Catherine McNally, and Mary Johnston.The funeral will be held Thursday, at 8:30 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, 385 Central Avenue, Seekonk. Burial will be in Mount Saint Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket. Visiting hours Wednesday, 4:00 - 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to Elmhurst Extended Care facility, 50 Maude Street, Providence, RI 02908 in his memory will be appreciated.
