

Kearns, Charles J., 93, passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at the Elmhurst Extended Care in Providence. He was a lifelong resident of Providence, the son of the late George F. and Annie T. (Mahoney) Kearns and lived in the Elmhurstneighborhood for eighty years.He was educated at St. Pius V School, Hope High School and studied at the RI School of Design. He was a member of the First Graduation Classof St. Pius V School in 1934.Charlie worked at the Defense Mapping Agency for 30 years. He served his country honorably with the US Army Air Force duringWW II in the European Theater. He participated in campaigns in Sicily, Naples, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennesand Central Europe.He was the brother of the late George F. Kearns, John F. Kearns, Anna K. Dailey and Mary M. McGarry. Charles was a kind, caring and loving man who will be dearly missed by his surviving niece Polly McDonald and her husband Jim ofProvidence/Narragansett and his nephew Roderick A. McGarry and his wife Michele of Cumberland. He is survived by numerous othernieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great grandnieces and nephews.The Kearns family extends sincere gratitude to the staff of the Elmhurst Extended Care Center for their special care and compassion.His funeral and visitation will be held on Friday, September 5, 2014 at 9:00 am from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 SmithSt., Providence. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am in St. Pius V. Church, Eaton St., Providence.
