Claire M. Davis (Loignon) 85, passed away August 16, 2024, born in Providence, a daughter of the late Omer and Cecilia Loignon. Beloved mother of Daniel Lorraine and his wife Diane, Michael Lorraine and his wife Melissa Meo, Cheryl Davis and her husband John Jacques and the late Steven Lorraine. Cherished grandmother of; Katie, Rebecca, Robert, Christina, Ashley, Daniel and Raymond. Great grandmother of; Carmina, Luca, Elias, Liviana, Aria, Carter, X’zayvier, Janiyah, Peyton, Devin, Phoenix and Summer. Sister of the late; Theresa, Irene, Ernest, Roger, Arthur and Jean.
Claire started her career as a school teacher and subsequently became an office manager at an insurance company. She enjoyed travelling and told us many stories of her journeys which included biking through Italy. She was one of the first women in Rhode Island to run for Congress in the late 1960s while raising her three sons as a widow.
Claire’s ability to show compassion to others in the face of her suffering during her diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic cancer shows her tenacity for living, her strength, and sheer willpower. Overall, the five-year survival rate for pancreatic cancer is around 12%. However, only about 1% of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer are expected to survive for at least 10 years. She lived for more than 20 years enjoying a life filled with love and support from her family.
She was a self-taught artist and crafted many drawings of the Holy Family and various animals. We will treasure the hand-drawn greeting cards she made and her many page-filled sketch books. Her passion of all animals was apparent by her many visits to farms, stables, and zoos. She loved horses and giraffes and especially the wild geese that came to visit her daily when she lived on Tiogue Lake.
She will be missed by all of her friends at the various senior centers she visited in Coventry, Smithfield and North Providence.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, August 20, at 11 am, St. Mary’s Church, 1525 Cranston Street, Cranston. Burial will follow in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at PanCan.org.
