Daniel J. Allen, 67, of Narragansett and Pompano Beach, FL, died peacefully at South County Hospital on October 25, 2023 in the arms of his devoted wife, Ruthy, surrounded by his family after a brief but determined battle with liver and bile duct cancer.
Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Joseph D. and Florence L. (Durkin) Allen. Raised in the Mount Pleasant section of Providence, Danny was always a “city guy”. He attended Blessed Sacrament School where he made many lifelong friends and was a 1974 graduate of LaSalle Academy and a 1976 graduate of RI Junior College.
Danny was a proud member of the Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 251, delivering in the liquor industry for Gasbarro Liquors and Centrex Distributors. He was also a member of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Union, Local 1 of NY, where he became fast friends with many celebrities who he always said, “they are just like the rest of us but had a better job”. He was the co-owner of the former B&D Tavern, Providence.
In addition to his beloved wife Ruth (Maldonado) Marrocco-Allen, to whom he was married for 36 years. Dan is also survived by his sister Nancy Allen Santucci and her husband Anthony, his brother Kevin J. Allen and his wife Carleen Doorley, his nephew Allen Santucci and nieces Julia and Olivia Santucci all of whom looked forward to his special birthday phone calls. He also leaves many cousins and many, many cherished friends. Dan was the stepfather of the late Frankie A. Marrocco and the brother of the late Dennis J. Allen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, October 28th at 10:00 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, Academy Avenue, Providence to which relatives and friends are invited. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours and flowers are respectfully omitted. Donations may be made in Dan’s memory to Hope Hospice, 1085 North Main Street, Providence or South County Health, 100 Kenyon Avenue, Wakefield, RI.
