He was the beloved husband for the past 13 years of Judith K. (Mullis) Vargas and the late Judith A. (Hackett) Vargas for 40 years before her passing in 2004.
Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Anthony K. and Mary D. (Souza) Vargas. He was the loving father of David M. Vargas and his wife Kate, and Stephen P. Vargas and his wife Susan, and the brother of William Vargas, Rita Mello, and Veronica Motta. He was also the cherished uncle of many nieces and nephews, who meant so much to him.
Daniel was lucky enough to make his career his “dream job” of being a firefighter with the Providence Fire Department, where he worked for many years before his retirement. In retirement, he became the Fire Inspector at Rhode Island Hospital. Daniel was from the Fox Point section of Providence and was a member and past president of the Portuguese American Social Club in Fox Point.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 22nd at 8:45 a.m. from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Anthony Church, 1413 Mineral Spring Avenue, North Providence. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, January 21st from 4:00-7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Providence Permanent Firemen's Relief Association, PO Box 28054, North Station, Providence, RI 02908.
