

Providence Coppolino, Dominic L., M.D., 87, of Providence, died Saturday at Mt. St. Rita Health Centre, Cumberland. He was the husband of the late Phyllis (DeLuca) Coppolino. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Antonio and Anna (Morelli) Coppolino. Dr. Coppolino graduated from Providence College, and Tufts University Medical School. He was a Captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, stationed in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He was in private practice in psychiatry in the state of Rhode Island from 1956-1991 and was on the staffs of St. Joseph Hospital, Our Lady of Fatima Hospital, Butler Hospital, and the Rhode Island Institute of Mental Health. He was a consulting psychiatrist at Providence College, URI, RIC, state and federal disability determination services, and at regional institutes of mental health. He lectured in Thomistic psychology and psychiatry at Providence College. Dr. Coppolino was a communicant at St. Augustine Church in Providence. He leaves his daughter, Nina C. Coppolino, of Providence; four sons, Benedict Coppolino of North Providence, Thomas A. Coppolino of Providence, John P. Coppolino and his wife Jill of Cumberland, and Anthony J. Coppolino and his wife Patricia of Arlington Virginia; a sister, America Brett of Cranston; and four grandsons, Michael, Matthew, Mark, and Philip Coppolino. He was the brother of the late Louise, Perini and Vincenza Coppolino, Marion Spittlehouse, Lena Fontaine, and Pauline Forchione. The funeral will be held Wednesday, at 8:45 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saint Augustine Church, Mount Pleasant Avenue, Providence. Burial, with military honors, will be in Saint Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours Tuesday, 5 - 8 pm.
