

ProvidenceEdward J. Dionne, Sr., 84, of Lindy Avenue, died peacefully Monday, May 6, 2013, at Cherry Hill Nursing Home, Johnston. He was the husband of the late Marie E. (King) Dionne.Born in Providence, a son of the late Edward J. and Delina (Robideau) Dionne, he was a lifelong city resident. Eddie was a truck driver for the City of Providence, Water Supply Board, for twenty eight years before retiring. He was a member of the Laborers International Union of North America, Local 1033. Prior to his City of Providence employment, he served his country proudly in the United States Army, providing ground support with the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Breckenridge, Kentucky, and later in Guam. An avid sports fan, he was a longtime fan of the Boston Red Sox. He leaves a son, Edward L. Dionne, Jr. and his companion, Gina; two daughters, Donna M. Cesario and her husband Robert, and Deborah Ann Giacobbi; three grandchildren, Chrisily, Jessica and Elizabeth, and six great-grandchildren; He was a brother of the late Jeannette Ayers, Lorraine Guzzetti, Alice Mitchell and Thelma Barthelotte. The funeral will be held Friday, at 8:45 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Blessed Sacrament Church, 179 Academy Avenue Providence, Burial, with military honors, will be in Saint Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours Thursday, 4 - 8 pm.
