Edward Leonard Knight

Edward Leonard Knight, age 78, of Pawtucket, RI passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at Hope Hospice and Palliative Care, Providence with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of 55 years to Joanne Marie ( Sousa ) Knight. Born in Pawtucket, RI he was the son of the late Henry Elmer and Anne Elizabeth ( McCann ) Knight.

Mr. Knight served his country proudly in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. After being honorably discharged from his service he went on to a 50 year career as a mail handler for the United States Post Office . Ed was a sports enthusiast, especially the Red Sox and Providence College Friars. You could find him watching sports almost every night of the week during the season. Throughout his youth, Ed played baseball as a catcher. He was very proud of his Irish heritage and was especially proud of his trip to Ireland with his children and grandchildren last May. He loved to have a pint of Guinness with friends and family.

In addition to his wife, Ed is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Knight and Tammy Knight-Gallant of Pawtucket, his adoring grandchildren, Annah Lapre, Kayla Pina, Brenden Knight, Haley Knight, Bret Lotti, Justis Lotti, Ella Gallant and Tyler Gallant, his cherished great grandchildren, Kylie, Jason and Myla. He is also survived by his brothers, Joseph Knight and his wife Fran of Pawtucket and John Knight and his wife Karen of East Providence. Edward was brother of the late Carol Ann McGill and Ellen Schwab.

Funeral from the Russell J. Boyle and Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence, RI will be Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at 8:45 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Mary's Church, 103 Pine Street, Pawtucket. Burial with full military honors will be in Mt. St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation is Monday, February 17, 2025 from 4:00-7:00 pm in the funeral home.
