Edward J. Maroney, PFD, 72, of Cranston, Rhode Island passed away Friday, January 11, 2019. Ted, as he was known by his friends, was born on June 12, 1946 in Providence, Rhode Island to Stephen and Dorothy Maroney.
After growing up in Providence, he bravely served in the navy in Vietnam. Following his time in the service, he continued to selflessly keep his community safe as a Providence firefighter for many years.
While Ted’s life was defined by his sacrifice, it was highlighted by his fun-loving antics, once even running away with the circus after working a hay detail for the fire department. However, as a proud Rhode Islander, he quickly returned back to work once the vacation time ran out. Ted will be remembered by his quick wit and infectious smile.
He is survived by his loving son, Connor, and siblings Stephen, Mary Ann, Kevin, Patricia, Dennis, and Donald, and preceded by parents Stephen and Dorothy.
Visitation will be from 4-7 pm on Wednesday, January 16th, 2019 in the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence, RI.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 17th, 2019 at Holy Name Church on Camp Street at 10:00 am to which relatives and friends are invited. Burial, with military honors will follow in North Burial Ground, Providence.
Flowers may be sent to 331 Smith Street, Providence, RI 02908 in Ted's memory.
