Edward Lee Smith, Sr

Edward Lee Smith Sr. of Providence, R.I passed away Friday September 29, 2017 at Fatima Hospital, surrounded by his beloved family. He was the son of the late Louis Nathaniel Smith and the late Mildred (Johnson) Smith. He was born February 21, 1944 in the West Elmwood section of Providence, R.I. on Tyler Street. He is preceded in death by his brothers the late Charles Smith Sr., Lewis Smith Sr. and his sisters the late Jacqueline (Berube) Smith and Deborah (Smith) Wilson. He is survived by his devoted wife of 36 years, Gloria (Bonay) Smith, his brother Raymond Smith Sr. and wife Priscilla, by his loving children Robin Lee Smith, Edward Lee Smith Jr. and wife Dawn, Leslie Joann (Smith) Laughlin and husband Paul, Edward Anthony Cooley and wife Nurys, Romona Lisa Phillip and husband Stanley. His grandchildren, Serena, Ashley, Elise, Dajuana, Jovan, Alexander, Paul Jr, Isaiah, Devin, Olivia and 10 great grandchildren. Eddie as he was affectionately known, enjoyed watching football and basketball, playing cards and bingo, when health permitted he loved to bowl; in his prime he bowled on the Osborne Bowling League where he was fortunate enough to win an award for perfect attendance. Eddie also had a few hobbies such as collecting elephants, taking care of his plants, playing the daily numbers and scratch tickets. Edward Smith in his prime was a dedicated hard worker. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, brother, relative and good friend. He worked at the Narragansett Gray Iron Foundry in Smithfield, RI and Okanite Electric Wire & Cable in Cumberland, RI. He leaves behind to mourn him many family members, friends and associates who will miss him dearly. We all loved you and are thankful for all the good times we shared with you. May you rest in peace. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Edwards funeral on Friday at 9 am followed by a funeral service at 10 am in the Russell J. Boyle and Son, 331 Smith St. Providence. Burial in Swan Point Cemetery, Providence. Visitation Thursday 5 - 8 pm.
