Elaine Frances (Laudati) Regine formerly of Palm Beach Gardens Florida, Middletown, North Providence and Cranston Rhode Island, died at the Bridge at Cherry Hill in Johnston, Rhode Island on May 2, 2018. She was 94 years old. She was the devoted wife of Louis J. Regine. Jr, “Lou” her husband of 70 years who passed away a little over a year ago.
She was the daughter of the late Madeline (Catelli) Laudati and Peter A. Laudati Sr. and the youngest of five siblings, all of whom have predeceased her. She is survived by her six children and their spouses, Susan and Warren DeSaulnier of Chelmsford, MA and Palm Beach Gardens Fl, Linda and Del Martin of Middletown RI and Bradenton FL, Chip and Gabriela Regine of Coventry RI, Joanne and Ron Lebel of Portsmouth RI and Bradenton FL, Lisa and Bob Childs of Cranston RI and Judy and Bob Wise of Providence RI, her 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a step-grandchid, Erin DeSaulnier.
Elaine grew up in Cranston RI and attended St Bartholomew grammar school, St Xavier’s Academy and graduated from Pembroke College, now Brown University, in 1944. It was at Brown that she met her husband Lou and famously assisted him in their Italian class. After graduation Elaine was a social worker for the state of Rhode Island. After raising her family she furthered her education obtaining a teacher’s certificate from Rhode Island College and became a substitute teacher in the Providence and Cranston school systems. Elaine loved sports and attended many sporting events with her family. She enjoyed playing golf and was a member of Metacomet and Wanumetonomy country clubs in Rhode Island and Eastpointe Country club in Palm Beach Gardens FL. Her claim to fame was when she made a hole in one in 1966 at Metacomet.
But most of all Elaine will be remembered as a devoted wife to her husband Lou, a wonderful and loving mom to her six children and their spouses, and a treasured “Noni” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. May you rest in peace Mom, we love and will miss you but we know you are finally reunited with Dad.
A private memorial mass to celebrate her life will be held for the family on July 5, 2018 at eleven o’clock at St. Barnabas Church in Portsmouth RI.

I knew Elaine as my best childhood friend Judy’s mother. I was underfoot at the Regine’s house often, and always felt welcome. It was like a second home to me, a place where we felt safe and were free to play. When dinnertime came around one Sunday I was invited to join everyone for the meal. I have a wonderful memory of yummy pastene soup and delicious roast chicken. There was a lot of love and joking in that house, and our childish games and pranks were graciously tolerated. I will be forever grateful to Elaine for giving me my best friend to grow up with and always making me feel welcome in her home.
