Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Henry and Lillian (Lacharite) Jutras. Eugene was preceded in death by sister, Germaine (Jutras) Craddy of Enfield, CT, and survived by siblings, Louis Jutras of Narragansett, Rosemary Jutras of Centredale, and Janet (Jutras) Warnock of Somers, CT.
Eugene is also survived by the love of his life, his wife of 62 years, Dolores (Girard) Jutras, and their five children: Dawn Murphy, Lynn Dolbec, Michelle Schrenk, Joseph Jutras, and Robert Jutras. He was the very proud grandfather of Corey and Cathryn Iavarone, Ross and Alexandra Murphy, Zachary and Manuela Murphy, Haley and Mark Lopez, Matthew and Ashley Iavarone, William Schrenk and Sara Rao, Mark Auld, B Auld, Henry Jutras, Parker Jutras and great grandfather of Gemma Iavarone, Miller Murphy, Miguel Murphy, Mason & Violet Lopez, Ethan & Christian Iavarone, Aubree & Scarlette Schrenk. He was also the father in law of Michael Murphy, Matthew Dolbec, Christine Jutras and Betsy Jutras.
He graduated from North Providence High School in 1958 and went on to serve in the U.S. Army in Bamberg, then West Germany, and later earned an associate’s degree from Johnson & Wales University. In his younger years, he volunteered as a fireman, enjoyed bowling, and was an avid golfer for more than 40 years.
Gene will be remembered for his large and infectious laugh, his warm presence, and his tendency to be the last to leave any gathering. Throughout his life, he worked at Ciba Geigy, Hoechst Celanese, and Cadillac Mills, and was known by many as a dependable household handyman.
Visitation for Eugene will be held Monday, September 21, 2026 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM in the PONTARELLI-MARINO FUNERAL HOME, 971 Branch Avenue, Providence.
His funeral will be held Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at 9:00 AM from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Anthony Church, 1413 Mineral Spring Avenue, North Providence. Burial with Military Honors to follow in the R.I. Veteran Cemetery, Exeter.
