

Born in Providence, Eugene was the beloved son of Farah P. Paul and Yves Legagneur, the cherished stepson of Alaba Sobowale and the devoted partner of Latoshia Denson. He was the beloved grandson of the late Clara Paul. Survived by great aunts, Yolette Paul and Marie Cayo.
Eugene attended Mount Pleasant High School for most of his education before graduating from Hope High School in 2004. He later continued his studies at Community College of Rhode Island. Throughout his life, Eugene devoted himself to caring for and uplifting others through his work as a coach, sports official, food director, and chef. He spent many dedicated years at Pawtucket Skilled and Nursing Rehabilitation before relocating to Georgia, where he continued his career at Emory University Hospital. Eugene took tremendous pride in his work and deeply valued the meaningful relationships and lasting connections he built throughout the years.
Eugene had a deep love for life and enjoyed video games, cooking, traveling, and spending time socializing with family and friends. Known for his warm spirit, humor, and unforgettable presence, Eugene had a way of bringing people together wherever he went. Basketball was one of his greatest passions. He played throughout high school and continued into adulthood in various basketball leagues. He also dedicated many years officiating basketball within Rhode Island, later serving as both a basketball and volleyball officiant in Georgia. His love for sports, community, and mentorship left a lasting impact on many.
Above all, Eugene was a devoted and loving father to Landon Daniel Paul, Sage Johnson, Nasier Johnson, and Aidan Johnson, who were the center of his world.
He was the cherished brother of Yves Paul, Giovanni Sobowale, Kevin Sobowale, Alan Sobowale, Faith Exavier, Kevin Legagneur, Webber Legagneur, Bernard Legagneur and Daniel Jean.
He also leaves behind his loving aunts and uncles, Tanya Georges, Nowa Nicolas, and Yvens Nicolas; two nephews; four nieces; many supportive and loving cousins; and countless friends whose lives were touched by his kindness, laughter, and love.
Eugene will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his generous heart, his strength, his humor, and the love he gave so freely to those around him.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM in the PONTARELLI-MARINO FUNERAL HOME, 971 Branch Avenue, Providence.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at 10:00 AM in Blessed Sacrament Church, 185 Academy Avenue, Providence. Burial to follow in Swan Point Cemetery.
