Florence J. Nachbar

Florence Joyce (Shindler) Nachbar, age 86, of Providence passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence. She was the wife of the late Leon Nachbar, whom she married in 1963.

Born and raised in Providence, a daughter of the late Samuel and Helen Shindler, she lived with her family in Pawtucket before moving back to Providence.

A graduate of Hope High School, class of 1958, Florence was an active member of the Jewish service organization B’nai B’rith. One of her annual acts of volunteerism was to help answer phones at the Pawtucket Police Station on Christmas so that those who worked there could spend time with their families. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Samuel Slater Middle School in Pawtucket. She loved gardening, taking care of her yard, and spending time with her family, especially when hosting them for Rosh Hashanah and Thanksgiving.

She has survived by her two sons, Neil Nachbar and his wife Jennifer of West Warwick and Harris Nachbar of Providence; one grandson, Samuel Joseph Nachbar, and several nieces and nephews. She was the younger sister of the late Phyllis Weiner.

Her funeral service will be held Friday, July 24, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in Sugarman-Sinai Memorial Chapel, 458 Hope Street, Providence. Burial will follow in Lincoln Park Cemetery, Warwick.
