Frank was the devoted husband of his late wife, Leona (Kelly) Zienowicz, with whom he shared 65 beautiful years of marriage before her passing in 2024. Born in Providence, RI, he was the cherished son of the late Paul and Josephine (Makara) Zienowicz.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, Frank went on to serve his community as a Providence Police Officer until his retirement in 1985. He later continued his commitment to public safety as a member of the Brown University Security team before retiring for a final time.
Frank was a lifelong New England sports enthusiast, faithfully cheering on the Red Sox, Patriots, and Celtics. He was also a passionate supporter of the Providence College Friars and was a loyal season ticket holder for many years. A true “foodie,” Frank embraced all kinds of cuisine, from simple comfort foods to more adventurous dishes. His curiosity and openness brought him great joy throughout his life.
Those who knew him recognized his multifaceted talents and interests. He participated in sports, theater, and the arts, and held a deep love for opera. Gifted with a beautiful singing voice, he spent many years as a proud member of “Zen Opera.”, and several years in the Cumberland Lincoln Community Chorus. His creativity extended to painting, drawing, building, cooking, and gardening, and in his younger years he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Frank was, in every sense, a man of many gifts.
Frank is survived by his loving children: Kathleen Rentrope and her husband, Roger; Det. Gail Zienowicz, PPD, Ret. and her husband, Capt. James Nolette, PPD, Ret.; Det. Sgt. Paul Zienowicz, PPD; and Glenn Zienowicz. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and his sister, Carolyn Ryan. He was predeceased by his brother, Edwin Zienowicz.
