George Arthur Clattenburg Jr.

George was the husband of Alice (MacDonald) Clattenburg for 74 years and the father of George F. Clattenburg, Annmarie Clattenburg, John Clattenburg, the late James Clattenburg, Mary (Clattenburg) Marchei, and Joseph Clattenburg. He leaves his granddaughters, Myla and Mia, and great-grandchildren, Dylan and Claire. He is also survived by his niece Maryellen Dee, who had a special place in his heart. He will be deeply missed by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.

George was a Marine veteran. After attending Northeastern University, George worked for many years as a metallurgical engineer. Following his retirement, he devoted much of his time to volunteering with organizations close to his heart. When Hurricane Katrina hit, George traveled to New Orleans to help residents rebuild their homes. He also volunteered with Meals on Wheels, PFLAG, and the Democratic Party.

At age 85, George completed his final Jimmy Fund Walk, bringing his total fundraising over the years to $100,000.

George was a lifelong Red Sox and Celtics fan and attended many games with family and friends. He loved staying active, especially through walking, racquetball, and spin classes. He also passed his love of jazz on to his children.

We will miss George’s kindness, generosity, and quiet intentionality—the thoughtful way he lived his life and cared for others.
