George M. Dermksian

ProvidenceDermksian, George M. "Shoe", 71, of Admiral Street, died Wednesday at Roger Williams Medical Center, Providence. Born in Providence, a son of Manoog and Hermine (Manoukian) Dermksian, he was a lifelong city resident. Active in the sports community his entire life, "Shoe" was the Director of Golf at Hillside Country Club, Rehoboth for the past several years. He had also operated the Club Pro Shop. As a younger man, he was the goalkeeper for the former Rhode Island Reds in the American Hockey League. He leaves two daughters; Susan J. Rich of Cranston, Lori M. Cioffi of Lincoln, two sons; Michael H. Dermksian of Cranston, David M. Dermksian of Providence, and five loving grandchildren; Harrison Dermksian, Max Rich, Jackie Rich, Jake Cioffi and Alexandra Cioffi. He was a brother of the late Sophie Atanossian, Rose Derderian, and Ann Matowitz. The funeral will be held Friday, at 10:00 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Funeral service at 11:00 am in Sts. Vartanantz Armenian Apostolic Church, 402 Broadway, Providence. Burial will be in the North Burial Ground, Providence. Visiting hours Thursday, 5 - 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Button Hole Golf Course, 1 Buttonhole Drive, Providence, RI 02909, in his memory will be appreciated.
