Gladys L. Costa

July 27, 1935June 17, 2020

Gladys L. Costa, 84, passed away June 17, 2020 at home surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late William H. Sr. and Anna (Lopes) Costa; wife of the late Frank “Lefty” Costa Jr., mother of Donna L. Gonsalves and Cheryl A. Benjamin; grandmother of Jason K. Lyons, John R. Benjamin III, and Joseph M. Benjamin; great-grandmother of Ava J. Benjamin; sister of Carole A. Motta and the late William H. Costa; and mother-in-law of John R. Benjamin Jr. She also leaves her late husband Frank Costa’s children, Joseph Costa and Corinne Carroll.

Gladys grew up as a young girl in the Fox Point section of Providence. She was a hairstylist and also worked as a banquet manager in the restaurant industry. She enjoyed cooking and spending time outdoors attending to her bountiful vegetable garden and beautiful flower beds, but her greatest love in life was her two daughters and spending time with family and friends.

She had a generous heart and will be sadly missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 21 Traverse Street, Providence, followed by graveside burial in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the RI Community Food Bank at www.rifoodbank.org/give-now.

Sorry to hear of Gladys' passing. A fine lady who always shared a smile with others in passing. She is gone from the eyes but not the mind or heart of those who knew her, nor from God's lasting memory. Isaiah 26:19
