

Helene J. Hammond (Johnson) 82, went to her eternal resting place on September 19, 2014 in No. Chesterfield Va. She was the wife of the late Aubrey F. Hammond Sr. Born in the Bronx, New York, she was a daughter of the late George and Ruth (Sebastian) Johnson. Later in 1950, she moved to Rhode Island. She was a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Practical Nursing and worked at the Miriam Hospital. She was a faithful member of Olney Street Baptist Church, where she had served on its Board of Christian Education, Assistant Financial Secretary and the Trustee Board. She was a member of the St. Martin DePorres Senior Center, and a member of the Eastern Pequot Tribal Nation. She is survived by 3 daughters, Valerie Williams (Ronald), Cheryl Alleyne (Edwin), Charlene Jones; a son, Aubrey F. Hammond Jr. (Regina); 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. She was a sister of the late Gerald Sebastian and George Johnson, and niece of the late Helen J. Richardson. The immediate family would like to thank the many friends and family members for their prayers and support during a most difficult time. Mom will truly be missed but we are comforted knowing that she was ready to leave to rest and have eternal peace. Visitation will begin on Saturday, at 9:30 am, in the Olney Street Baptist Church, 100 Olney Street, Providence, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am, to which relatives and friends are invited.
