Hugh T. Mulholland, 58, of Matunuck, RI became one of heaven’s angels on Friday January 23, 2015. With his loving wife, Barbara Hanley-Mulholland and cherished dog Liberty at his side, Hugh went to eternal rest after a sudden illness. Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Hugh E. and Jessie (Bergeron) Mulholland. Hugh also leaves behind one older brother, Dennis of Fruitland Park, FL along with two sisters, Patricia Mitchell of Carlsbad, CA and Mary Seccareccia, of Suffield, CT. Hugh was also the beloved uncle to eighteen nieces and nephews. As a child, Hugh was a member of St. Teresa’s Parish, where he also attended school and served as an altar boy. He graduated from Tolman High School in 1975. Hugh then pursued his passion for cooking by attending and graduating from Johnson and Wales University in Providence, where he perfected his skills. Hugh’s love of adventure and traveling often found him cooking in restaurants in places like Florida or Lake Tahoe before settling on Block Island. On the Island he worked at Dead Eye Dick’s, The Oar, and the Beachhead and lived at Ma Hutchinson’s. During this time he met the love of his life, Barbara. They were married 25 years ago, on Block Island, in a momentous weekend long celebration with family and friends from all around the country. This event still has new stories surfacing. Shortly after they moved to Matunuck and Hugh went to work for the Diocese of Rhode Island, at Our Lady of Peace in Narragansett. Hugh had an infectious smile and laugh; he was a gentle giant with a kind heart and loved life to the fullest. He truly enjoyed nothing more than cooking good food and seeing family and friends enjoy it together. Hugh and Barbara began throwing Memorial Day Parties to kick off the summer and to share their happiness. It is only fitting that he would want a Celebration of Life Party to honor his memory and passion for fun. There will be a gathering of family and friends to honor Hughie’s memory over Memorial Day Weekend in Matunuck. The family wishes any donations in Hughie’s memory to be made to the Block Island Conservancy, P.O. Box 84, 234 Weldon's Way, Block Island, RI 02807.
