She was the beloved wife of the late Raymond Dumont. Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Armand and Loretta (Coutu) Provencher.
Irene began working early in life as a waitress in her uncle’s restaurant, Crystal Restaurant in Woonsocket, followed by many others, where she enjoyed meeting and chatting with new people and making friends, all while being a wife, mother and homemaker. She was so proud of earning her GED as an adult, working as one of the first female police officers in Millville, MA and then moving on as a nurse’s aide at the Friendly Nursing Home in North Smithfield. She and Ray enjoyed camping, fishing, bowling, motorcycle riding, dancing to country music, and playing cards with their friends. Irene’s favorite memory was her and Ray’s 30th Anniversary journey to Hawaii before retirement to Zephyrhills, Florida. Irene also loved having a good time commiserating with friends and playing Bingo, especially when she had the chance to yell out, “Bingo!”
She was the devoted mother of Donna Dumont-Souza and her husband, Al Souza of Pawley’s Island, SC, Dale Bissonnette and her partner, Doug Adams of Hopedale, MA, Patricia Carlisle and her husband, Kevin Carlisle of Belmont, NH, and the late Michael and Diane Dumont; cherished grandmother of Marc Carlisle, Steven Bissonnette and Brian Bissonnette; and great-grandmother of 7. She was also the sister of Richard Provencher and his wife, Lorraine of Woonsocket, RI, and the late Henry, Edgar and Raymond Provencher; and godmother of Sarah Provencher Rondeau and her husband, David Rondeau.
Calling hours and funeral arrangements are omitted. A celebration of life is being planned for a future date.
