Jewish Convalescent Home. She was the widow of Gordon H Wolfe. Both Irma and
Gordon grew up in New Bedford and became engaged after Gordon returned from military service in the Pacific during World War II.
Irma’s parents were Dr. Charles Lipsitt, a leading pediatrician in New Bedford and
Bella Cohen Lipsitt, one of the very few women lawyers of her day in
Massachusetts.
Irma and Gordon ended up settling in Great Neck, NY where they raised two children. During that time, in addition to being a devoted mother, Irma embarked on a professional life that included being a school teacher, a remedial reading specialist with a master’s degree in education, and then, when her children had grown up, becoming the CFO of Gordon H Wolfe & Co, a financial public relations firm in New York City. Upon retiring, Irma and Gordon returned home, taking up residence in Dartmouth.
In addition to her professional careers, Irma was an active member of Tifereth Israel Synagogue. She was also active in various Jewish organizations both in the United States and in Israel.
Irma is survived by her loving children, Ann Michelle Wolfe and Stephen Harris Wolfe, her loving grandchildren Elizabeth Hauptman and Michael Hauptman, and her great grandchild, Kavi Rehman.
A private family ceremony is being held at the Plainville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home on Hawthorn Street in New Bedford.
