

ProvidenceJames F. Harrington, 84, of Modena Avenue, died peacefully Wednesday evening at Rhode Island Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Theresa C. (O'Connor) Harrington. They were married for sixty-one years. Jim served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII and worked for the U.S. Postal Service for over thirty-five years, retiring in 1985. He was a communicant of Saint Augustine Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus, Finnegan Council, the Tri-City Elks Lodge #14, Warwick and the National Association of Postal Supervisors. An avid golfer, Jim was a member of Lincoln Country Club for forty-two years. He was also a member of the RI Golf Association and the RI State Seniors Golf Association. Born in Providence, a son of the late Michael and Rose Harrington, he was a lifelong Providence resident. Besides his wife, he leaves his son, James Harrington and wife Nancy; three daughters, Peggy Coleman and husband Mark, Patricia Santos and husband Michael, and Mary Vecoli and husband Michael; nine loving grandchildren and two great-grandsons. He was a brother of the late M. Joseph and John Harrington and Helen Meehan. The funeral will be held Monday, at 7:45 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am in Saint Augustine Church, 639 Mount Pleasant Avenue, Providence. Burial, with military honors, will be in Saint Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket.
