

ProvidenceNeilan, James J., 74, of South Huntington Avenue, Melbourne, Florida, and formerly of Eaton Street, Providence, died Friday, September 8th, at home. He was the beloved husband of Constance V. (Guertin) Neilan. They had been married for sixteen years. Born in Providence, a son of the late James J. Neilan Sr. and Mary T. (Lenihan) Neilan, he had lived in Providence for many years before moving to Melbourne, Florida two years ago. Mr. Neilan was a Certified Financial Planner for twenty years, retiring in 2002. He had also worked as a senior buyer for the former W.T. Grant Co, in the New York City Headquarters, for many years. He served his country as a Captain in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a 1953 graduate of Providence College. Beside his wife Constance, he leaves three sons; Michael D. Neilan, of Beaufort, SC, David B. Neilan of Barrington, Kevin P. Neilan of Huntington Beach, CA, a daughter; Kathleen A. White of Keller, TX, a sister, Mary Frances Kelleher of Barrington, and seven grandchildren. He was a brother of the late Ann M. Hackett. The funeral will be held Friday, at 9:00 am from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saint Thomas Church, Fruit Hill Avenue, Providence. Burial, with military honors, will be in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
