

South Kingstown: O'Grady, James F., "Blackie", 93, of Community Road, passed away on Friday at home. He was the husband of Katherine M. (Higgins) O'Grady for 67 years. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Dennis and Hannah T. (McKenna) O'Grady. Mr. O'Grady was a patrolman for the Providence Police Department from 1946 to 1969. He was a member of the Providence Police Association, the Retired Providence Police & Firefighters Association and the Providence F.O.P. Lodge #3. He later worked as a Rhode Island State Sheriff with the State Courts System from 1969 to 1975. He was a World War II Navy veteran serving with the Seabees Battalion. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, James D. O'Grady of South Kingstown, Dennis F. O'Grady of West Warwick, a daughter, Maureen K. O'Grady of Warwick, five grandchildren, James R., Michael J., Kathleen A., Kevin and Sean O'Grady and five great grandchildren. His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 8:30am from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Rd., Warwick. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am in St. Joseph Church, 92 Hope St., Providence. Burial with military honors will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. Visiting hours, Monday 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to Home and Hospice Care of RI, 169 George St., Pawtucket, RI 02860, in his memory would be appreciated.
