Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Joseph and Margaret (Greco) Prata.
He was a retired Local 37 Ironworker and an apprentice schoolteacher as well as board member.
James loved the New York Yankees, his friends, and his community at Mandalay Cove; but more than anything, he loved his family.
He was the loving father of Christine Matos and her husband Roberto, Joseph Prata, Anthony Prata, and Joanna Pappas and her husband Alexander; cherished grandfather of 9; devoted brother of Antonio C. Prata, Maria Marino, Louis M. Prata, and the late Joseph D. Prata; and adored uncle of several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Catholic Memorial Mass on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. in the Mary, Mother of Mankind Church, 25 Fourth Street, North Providence. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
