WEISS, R.N., Jeanette, 87, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2018 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center with her daughter Sara, and her son’s David and Joel close by her side. She was the well-loved and devoted wife of the late Charles (Charlie) Weiss, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Max and Sarah (Silberman) Halperin of Providence, Rhode Island. She is survived by her sister Ethel and her late husband Bernard Hershkowitz of Monsey, N.Y. and formerly of Worcester, MA., her late brother Isaac Halperin and his widowed wife, Sheila Halperin of Delray Beach FL, and formerly of Cranston, R.I., children; Joel Weiss of N. Conway, N.H. Ellen Weiss of Warwick, R.I., David Weiss of Rumford, RI, Sara Weiss Maroto and Son-In-Law Stephen F. Maroto of Rumford, RI., Grandchildren; Lauren, and Noah, Pasaretti, Melinda, and Alexandra Maroto .
Jeanette was born in Providence, Rhode Island, and lived with her parents, and siblings on a small farm in Warwick, R.I.
Jeanette was always known for her quiet temperament, yet charmingly dry sense of humor. She had a poignant, straight forward point of view, yet a sympathetic disposition when needed.
Jeanette became an activist for the Rhode Island Chapter NAMI association (National Alliance Mental Illness) Support Group. She always put others needs before her own. She moved to N.Y. to pursue her degree in nursing from The Mount Sinai Hospital School of Nursing in New York in 1958 where she was given The Murry Guggenheim award for top honors in her class and later obtained her Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree at Rhode Island College in 1983., She worked in various hospitals, nursing homes, and taught CNA classes over the course of her 50 year career.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 3nd at Sugarman-Sinai Memorial Chapel at 458 Hope St. Providence, RI, with burial immediately following at Lincoln Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association RI Chapter.
