Joan Eileen Briggs, age 79, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026, at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation in West Warwick, RI. Born in Coventry, she was the beloved daughter of the late Henry L. and Grace E. (Barnett) Briggs.
A lifelong Rhode Islander, Joan made her home for many years at Carroll Towers on Smith Street, Providence, RI, where she was known for her friendly spirit and warm greetings. She was a longtime and devoted parishioner of St. Patrick Church, where her faith in Jesus Christ and sense of community brought her great comfort and purpose throughout her life.
Although Joan was born with a disability, her mother, especially, empowered her to soar to educational heights that others failed to believe that she could achieve. Joan was a firm believer in the right to life, grounded in her experience as an overcomer. She gave back to society and inspired all who truly understood her life story.
Joan was a proud graduate of Coventry High School and Johnson & Wales University, and for many years she worked in the office at the Meeting Street School. Her dedication, kindness, and steady presence left a lasting impression on colleagues, students, and families alike.
She will be remembered for her gentle demeanor, her unwavering faith, and the quiet strength with which she moved through the world. Those who knew Joan will miss her deeply and cherish the memories shared with her.
Thank you to everyone at Westview Nursing Father Brice at St. Patrick Church and Russell J. Boyle Funeral Home and Rehabilitation for their love, compassion, and capability.
