Joan Ann Matarese

Our beloved mother, Joan A. (Scaramuzzi) Matarese, 90, passed away in the comfort of her home on April 7, 2024. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Letitia (Sullivan) Scaramuzzi.

A beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great- grandmother. Joan is survived by her three loving children, Robert F. Matarese (Deborah), Becky A. Porcaro (Gregory), Brenda S. Autiello (Paul), and the late William J. Matarese. Adored grandmother to 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Joan was the cherished great grandmother and godmother to the late Bo William Guadagno. Joan was the sister of Francesco Scaramuzzi and the late Anthony Scaramuzzi.

Joan’s love for her family was unconditional. She would often say her greatest accomplishment in life was her children. Her quiet manner and the everyday phone calls to make sure we were ok was a routine we will forever miss. Joan was an amazing cook and could bake without even glancing at a recipe. Many of her wonderful meals brought her close-knit family together to enjoy in her home filled with laughter and love. Joan worked many years for an accountant and as a medical secretary. She loved traveling, decorating her home, caring for those in need and most of all spending time with her family.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at 12:30 p.m. in Saint Anthony’s Church, 1413 Mineral Spring Avenue, North Providence. Visiting hours are kindly omitted. Burial will be private.
