

North Providence John P. Masterson, 85, of North Providence, died peacefully Friday, March 8, 2013, with his family by his side. He was the husband of the late Marion K. (Abrahamian) Masterson. Born and raised in the Smith Hill neighborhood of Providence, a son of the late Peter and Rose (Reynolds) Masterson, he lived in North Providence for over fifty years. He was also a summer resident of the Mount View neighborhood of North Kingstown for the past forty-six years. John was a toolmaker for Spiedel for twenty-eight years, retiring in 1993, and was a member and former treasurer of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Union, Local 129. He served his country proudly in the United States Coast Guard, stationed in Hawaii, during WW II, and later in the United States Navy, aboard the USS Wasp (CV-18) during the Korean War. He leaves two daughters, June A. Masterson and Marion D. Masterson-Tso and her husband Wayne; three loving grandchildren, Sarah E. Insana, John J. Insana and Grace A. Tso; two brothers, Peter Masterson and Thomas Masterson; and two sisters, Ann Holt and Patricia Kiernan. He was a brother of the late Hubert and James Masterson, Maureen Wolfer and Helena Potter. The funeral will be held Wednesday, at 8:45 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saint Patrick Church, 244 Smith Street, Providence. Burial, with military honors, will be in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
