

East Greenwich: Murphy, John F. "Jack", 61, former Associate Director for the RI Department of Administration and Director of the RI Child Support Enforcement Program passed away Monday at Miriam Hospital He was the husband of Mary E. (Donahue) Murphy. They had been married for 39 years.Born in Providence, he was the son of the late John F. and Marguerite (Martin) Murphy.He was a graduate of Bishop Hendricken High School, received his Bachelors Degree in Management from Bryant College, and was awarded a Masters of Science Degree in Managerial Technology from Johnson & Wales University.Jack held numerous accounting and management positions during his 31 years of state service. He was formerly the Administrator of the Fraud Investigation and Prosecution Office and the Collections, Claims and Recoveries Unit in the RI Department of Human Services. As Director of Child Support Enforcement he created a national network of states that successfully intercepted insurance settlements from parents whose children were owed past due support. In 2000, a room in the Federal Office of Child Support Enforcement's Aerospace Office Building in Washington, DC was dedicated in his name in recognition for his contributions of new and innovative technology to the national support program.He was a member of the RI Children's Cabinet, the National Council of Child Support Directors, and the New England States Child Support Directors Association, and first chairperson of the RI Fatherhood Coalition. He was Past President and Secretary of the East Greenwich Lions Club, and a manager of teams in the East Greenwich Little League and Soccer Leagues. He was a long time member of the Ocean State Golf League.He also loved playing piano at many social gatherings and for his own enjoyment. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Church.Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Kevin M, Murphy and his wife Kimberly, of Richmond, RI, two sisters, Ann M. Bellotti and her husband Michael, of Warwick and Eileen Martin of Richmond, VA; and several nieces and nephews.His funeral will be held on Saturday at 8:45am in the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Rd., Warwick. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am in Our Lady of Mercy Church, Fourth Ave, East Greenwich. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, East Greenwich.
