

John P. Sugrue, 87, of Cranston, died peacefully on Monday, November 10, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Mary (Degnan) Sugrue. They were married for 50 years. Born in the Fox Point section of Providence, he was the son of the late Timothy and Mary (Callahan) Sugrue.He was employed by the Narragansett Electric Company for 46 years, retiring in 1992 as a supervisor in the Meter Department.Mr. Sugrue was a member of the St. Matthew's Holy Name Society and volunteered as an adult altar server for 10 years. He was a charter member of the Budlong Sunday Baseball League and served as the Treasurer for 12 years. He and his wife were Meals on Wheels volunteers for 9 years.John was a veteran of World War II serving in the Air Force. He was a member of the American Legion, the Cranston Council of the Knights of Columbus and the Irish Ceilidhe Club.He is survived by two daughters, Mary S. Colman, of Cranston, and Patricia S. Arruda, of Swansea, MA; three sons, John T. Sugrue, of Jamestown, William T. Sugrue, of West Warwick and Thomas P. Sugrue (Capt. Warwick Fire Dept.) of Warwick; 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was the brother of Julia Grady, of Barrington. John was also the father of the late James and Ann Sugrue and brother of the late Mary O’Brien. We are located 1/4 mile from the Interstate 95 off-ramp on Route 117 at the intersection of Tollgate and Centerville Road (Across the street from "Cafe Tempo") We are handicapped accessible with ample parking.
