

ProvidenceJoseph T. Carey, 85, of Providence, died Thursday at Philip Hulitar Hospice Care Center. He was the beloved husband of Agatha A. (McLaughlin) Murphy-Carey. They were married for thirty-four years. Born in Providence, a son of the late Joseph M. and Sarah F. (Furlong) Carey, he was a lifelong city resident. He served in the United States Navy during WW II. Mr. Carey was a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service for thirty-seven years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers, Local 15. He enjoyed playing golf and bowling. Besides his wife, he leaves four sons, Francis, James, Timothy and William Murphy; three daughters, Theresa Noonan, Margaret Wood and Mary DiLibero; three brothers, Reverend John C. Carey, OFM, CAP, Raymond Carey, and John Carey; a sister, Mary Champagne, and thirteen grandchildren. He was a brother of the late Robert Carey. The funeral will be held Tuesday, at 8:45 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Blessed Sacrament Church, 179 Academy Avenue, Providence. Burial will be in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours Monday, 4 - 8 pm.
