

ProvidenceJoseph F. Curran, 82, of Berkley Street, died peacefully Thursday at Golden Crest Nursing Centre. He was the husband of the late Gladys (Vitullo) Curran. Born and raised in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood of Providence, he was a son of the late Thomas and Margaret (McCaughey) Curran. Joe worked in the Purchasing Office for the City of Providence for twenty-five years, then as a Deputy Sheriff for the State of Rhode Island for twenty years before retiring. He was a summer resident of Matunuck for over fifty years, and was an avid sports fan and golfer. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy during WW II. Joe leaves a sister, Margaret M. "Peggy" O'Keefe, of Wakefield; numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. He was a brother of the late Thomas Curran and James Curran. The funeral will be held Monday, 9:45 am from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at11:00 am in Blessed Sacrament Church, 179 Academy Avenue, Providence. Burial will be in Saint Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours Sunday, 4 - 7 pm.
