

Joseph P. “Pete” DiPina Sr., 87, of North Providence passed away peacefully on October 28, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Linda (Greenwood) DiPina. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Joseph G. and Laura (Matthews) DiPina.
Besides his wife, Mr. DiPina was the devoted father of Gary, Joseph, Jr., and Shay DiPina; Lisa (DiPina) Sacks; Marie Monteiro-Mello, Yevette (Monteiro) Boulris and Michael Monteiro; and Concetta (Musco) Reis, Angelo Musco and the late Joan Dulin. Mr. DiPina was brother to James and George DiPina and Etheline “Dee Dee” (DiPina) Gonsalves and the late Larzo DiPina.
Mr. DiPina also leaves dozens of cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Mr. DiPina was a retired stevedore at the Port of Providence and a proud 30-year member of Local 1329, International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA), AFL-CIO. Blessed with a quick wit and an incredible sense of humor, Pete was an avid golfer, a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan and a beloved friend to all.
Visitation will be held Thursday, 4-7 p.m. in the PONTARELLI-MARINO Home, 971 Branch Avenue, Providence. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Anthony’s Church, 1413 Mineral Spring Avenue, North Providence. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Home and Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
