

CoventryJoseph W. Fogarty, Jr., 71, of Bunker Road, Rotonda West, Florida, died Tuesday at the Miriam Hospital. He was the husband of Lorraine C. (Richards) Fogarty. They were married forty-eight years. Born in Pawtucket, a son of the late Joseph W. Fogarty, Sr. and Christina (Whitman) Fogarty-Jones, he lived in the Smith Hill section of Providence for many years before moving to Coventry for twenty-seven years, and Florida for the past eight years. Mr. Fogarty was a technical assistant in the Engineering Department at Brown University for many years, working with graduate students in the research labs, and undergraduate students in the teaching labs. He also assisted in teaching Product Liability Law courses, and was actively involved in the practice of Forensic Engineering. He retired from Brown University in 1999 after thirty-six years of service. He was a member of the A.S.M. Society. He served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Berlin Crisis in Germany. Beside his wife Lorraine, he leaves a son, Joseph W. Fogarty, III; a daughter, Patricia A. Fitzpatrick; three sisters, Marie Leeming, Alice Croteau, and Joan Kenney; four grandchildren, Jamie, Maddison, and Erin Fitzpatrick and Joseph W. Fogarty, IV. He was a brother of the late Barbara Donofrio. The funeral will be held Monday, at 7:45 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road, (Rt117) Warwick. Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am in Sts. John & Paul Church, 341 South Main Street, Coventry. Burial, with military honors, will be in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours Sunday, 3 - 7 pm.
