Joseph T. Mullen

August 8, 1956April 26, 2014

JOSEPH T. MULLEN, 57, of Smithfield, peacefully entered eternal life at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, April 26, 2014. Born in Providence, Joe was the son of Marion (Sullivan) and the late John "Bud" Mullen. Cherished husband of Rhonda E. (DeAngelis) for 32 years; beloved father of Joseph P. and Alicia L. Mullen and their fiances Megan and Richard. He was the proud "Papa" of Buddy.

Joe lived his life centered in Christ. His strength and courage on this journey was remarkable; the peace in his heart was comforting. Joe held on to hope until the very end and was saddened to leave us so soon. He assured that he would be watching over us all.

Joe had served in the U.S. Marine Corp. and was a self-employed painting contractor for 28 years.

He leaves behind a brother, Michael; and sisters Deb, Michelle (Edmonds), Mary and Janie Mullen. He was predeceased by his brother John. Cherished son-in-law of Dolores and the late Paul DeAngelis. Beloved brother-in-law of Donna and William Rampone, Paul and Joan DeAngelis and Gerald Edmonds. Treasured uncle to Matthew (Bridget), Michael, Elizabeth, Olivia, Meghan and Marci. Great uncle to Fiona. He will be sorely missed.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, 5-8 p.m. with his funeral on Thursday at 8:30 a.m. from the PONTARELLI-MARINO Home, 971 Branch Avenue, Providence. A Mass of Christian Burial in honor of Joe's life will be celebrated on Thursday, at 9:30 a.m. in St. Pius V Church, Eaton Street, Providence. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.

Just learned of Joe's passing and feel such a great loss has taken place! Met Joe many years ago at the VA and feel blessed to have crossed paths with him. I admired the tremendous pride he took in his projects in and around the hospital and the positive aura that illuminated from him when holding such friendly conversations with all. Joe was a leader, not follower, but still had a way to make everyone around him feel comfortable. He called me "smiley", but it was his smile that actually attracted people. Everyone loved Joe, he always had an uplifting thing to say. I know I always felt better when knowing he was working around the x-ray dept. Truly a very God fearing, kind, respectful, and nonjudgmental sole. Sincere condolences go out to his loved ones. I will remember him always, keep him in my prayers, and know the world was a better place when he was in it.

Joe was my best library customer, coming to read the paper, joke, and talk with me before he started working to paint at the VA Hospital. My library looks beautiful now, because he insisted on painting all of my walls for my renovations. He is greatly missed, and my prayers go to you, his family and friends to have comfort in his memory of good times with him.
