Joseph James Norton, Jr

Norton, Joseph J., Sr., age 87 passed away on November 5, 2011 at Hattie Ide Chaffee Nursing Home. He was the husband of Helen V.(Miner) Norton and the late Ann (McDonnell) Norton. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Joseph J. and Margaret (Howe) Norton. Before retirement, Mr. Norton was employed as a postman for many years. He was a Eucharistic minister and a volunteer with the soup kitchen at St. Patrick Church. He was also a WWII Navy Veteran, a member of the Ceilidhe Club and a loving and caring person who was devoted to his family. Besides his wife he leaves his children, Joseph Norton of Cranston and Margaret Church of Bristol. He was the brother of John Norton of Warwick and Mary Phillips of TX. Grandfather of 3 and great-grandfather of 3. He was also the brother of the late Leo and Frederick Norton. Mr. Norton also leaves his dear friend , his dog Murphy II. His funeral with visitation will be held on Thursday at 10 am from The Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home 331 Smith St. Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am in St. Patrick Church, Smith St. Providence. Interment will follow in St. Ann Cemetery.
