Joe graduated from Pawtucket West High School and honorably served his country in the Vietnam War as a member of the U.S. Navy Seabees. He later earned a B.S. in Business Administration from Roger Williams College and a certificate of architecture from Wentworth Institute of Technology. He retired in 2018 after a long career in commercial construction management. Joe was a member and former adjutant general of the Howard Rogers Post 25 and a former member of the Warwick Building Code Board of Appeals.
Joe was a devoted family man who cherished his time spent with his wife, children and grandchildren. He and his beloved wife Cheryl enjoyed many wonderful summer weekends at Sand Hill Cove, and they loved traveling the country. Closer to home, they found their special place along the Marginal Way in Ogunquit, Maine. Joe was a dedicated and loving father and a constant and steady source of wisdom and support to his children. A skilled handyman, he spent countless hours working alongside his children on renovation projects at their homes. He was a decades long Providence Bruins season ticket holder, attending home games with his daughter.
Joe was joyous and fun loving and looked forward to holidays, birthdays, and cookouts, where he reveled in the company of his extended family. He was a proud and doting grandfather, and he treasured outings with his grandkids and attending their recitals, sporting events, and graduations.
He also had a wide circle of friends, and he enjoyed golfing with his Theater Tap buddies and taking road trips to attend Indy and NASCAR races. Joe also was a man of faith, and he was an active communicant of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Pawtucket, where he served as junior and senior warden. And he was always available to lend a neighborly hand.
We will miss his love, strength, guidance, sense of humor and companionship.
Joe is survived by his wife of 56 years Cheryl (Romantini), his son Marc (Kristen), daughter Kristen, grandchildren Caroline, Nick, and Karlie, sister- and brother-in-law Linda and Steven Sperry, nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his sister Joyce and her husband James Kareemo. The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the entire staff at Briarcliffe Gardens in Johnston who cared for Joe during his journey with Alzheimer’s.
