Joseph P. Varin, 58, of Cumberland, passed away unexpectedly at home on Thursday, July 9, 2026. Raised in Providence, Joseph—known simply as Joe—will be remembered for his enormous heart, unmatched work ethic, and ability to make nearly anyone laugh.
Joe was the beloved son of Robert D. Varin Sr. and the late Elizabeth (McKenna) Varin.
More than anything, Joe was the devoted father of Quincie Varin and Joseph P. “Jay” Varin II. Quincie and Jay were the center of his world, and he was an incredibly proud dad. He loved them deeply and treasured the special relationship he shared with each of them. Joe also had a close bond with Quincie’s husband, Cory Snape, and regarded him as a son. He was formerly married to Heather Varin, and together they shared their two children.
Joe also leaves behind his longtime significant other, Christina Olson, who was such an important part of his life for many years. Together, they shared a home and their cat, Tito.
Joe had a special and unbreakable bond with his siblings; he was the brother of Robert Varin and his late wife, Donna Varin; Michael Varin; Lisa Janbullat and her husband, Sam Janbullat; and Nicole Varin. He was predeceased by his brother and best friend, James Varin Sr. He was also a nephew, uncle and friend to many.
Joe loved his work as a manager at Genesis Logistics in Bellingham, but outside of work Joe loved his Washington Commanders through every season. More than anything else, Joe loved his family. He was protective, loyal, generous, and always willing to help the people he cared about. Family came first, always.
Joe will be remembered every football Sunday, and every day in between. His absence leaves a space that cannot be filled, and he will be loved and missed more than words can say.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 16, 2026 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM in the PONTARELLI-MARINO FUNERAL HOME, 971 Branch Avenue, Providence followed by a service in the funeral home at 6:00 PM.
A Celebration of Life to follow the funeral home services will be at The Trap North in Smithfield - which will be open to family and friends at 7:00 PM.
Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe’s memory to the RI Brain and Spine Tumor Foundation at https://ribstf.org
