

Joyce E. Stevens Gauvin, 84, of Orchard Meadows Drive, Smithfield passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on September 4, 2025 after her battle with lymphoma. She was the beloved wife of Norman E. Gauvin.
Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Albert A. Johnson, Sr., and Mary R. (Carrier) Johnson.
Joyce was a graduate of St. Xavier’s Academy and was later employed by the New England Telephone Company for 34 years, retiring as an Accounting Staff Manager. After retirement from New England Telephone, Joyce began her second career as the owner and operator of the Electrology Center in North Providence for thirteen years.
Joyce is survived by her husband Norman; brother Ronald W. Johnson (retired PFD) and his wife Jane of North Scituate; nephew Michael A. Johnson (retired PFD) of West Warwick; niece Linda Johnson Rossini and her husband Anthony of Florham Park, NJ; grand nephew Christopher J. Rossini and grand niece Alyssa M. Rossini of Florham Park, NJ.; sister in law Madeline D. Johnson of West Palm Beach, FL and Norman’s sons Bruce D. Gauvin (retired PFD) of Madison, AL and Peter J. Gauvin of Greenville, RI and their families. She was predeceased by her brother Albert “Mooney” A. Johnson, Jr. (retired PFD) and niece Lauren M. Johnson. She was also the former wife of the late Howard G. Stevens (retired PFD).
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at 11:00 AM in St. Augustine Church, 639 Mt. Pleasant Avenue, Providence. Burial to follow in St. Ann Cemetery.
