

North Kingstown: Judge Robert J. McOsker, 79, died at Eleanor Slater Hospital, on Friday, October 23, 2009 after a long illness. He was married to his loving wife, Joanne R (Solano) McOsker for 47 years. He was the husband of the late Theresa A.(Fox) McOsker. His parents were the late Daniel and Helen (Soper) McOsker from Providence.He is survived by his brother, Charles and his wife Patricia from Berwyn, PA, and his sister, Joan Raughtigan, from Orange, MA. He is the beloved father of six children, Daniel and his wife Vicki, of Scarborough, Maine, Helen Altomari and her husband, Frank, from Myrtle Beach, SC,Marybeth Weaver and her husband Paul of St. Johnsbury, VT, Ann Maria Francis and her husband Thomas from Falls Church, VA,and Marie Hassell and her husband Joseph of Saunderstown, RI and the late Clara Ryan.Judge McOsker was the proud grandfather of 27 grandchildren, Theresa Paige of NH, Vanessa Gingue, Paul, Marissa, Kristin, Kara, Kaylee and Eva Ann Weaver of VT, Erin, Derek, Ryan, and Haley McOsker from Maine, Thomas, Elizabeth, Kathleen, Theresa, Clare, Marybeth, Rose, Maria and Emma Francis of Falls Church, VA, Elizabeth and Anthony Altomari from Myrtle Beach, SC, Alexandria and Isabella Gianna Hassell from Saunderstown and the late Matthew Francis and Joseph Hassell.Judge McOsker graduated from Providence College and received his law degree from Boston University in 1952. He was a Providence City Councilman from the 9th Ward from 1955 to 1966, later served as City Solicitor for the city of Providence from 1967 to 1973. While City Solicitor he received an award from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers honoring his efforts to stop pornography. In 1968 he was appointed as the First President of the Rhode Island Association of City and Town Solicitors. In 1973 he was appointed as an Associate Justice to the Rhode Island District Court and served until 1986.He was a great advocate for the Right to Life along with his wife and a strong supporter of Catholics for Life, the Little Flower Home and the Mother of Life Center.Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4-8 PM in the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Rd, (Route 117) Warwick. Funeral services and burial will be private.
