

Kathleen P. (Twohig) Rigney, age 93, of Providence, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 25, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph J. Rigney, with whom she shared 54 years of devoted marriage.
Born in Chelsea, MA, Kathleen was the daughter of the late Jeremiah P. and Eileen V. (Kelleher) Twohig. A proud 1950 graduate of Saint Patrick High School, she went on to serve the City of Providence for many years as a senior clerk. She was a longtime union steward with Local Union 1033. Active in city politics, Kathleen was an elected representative of the Fifth Ward Democratic Committee. Her Catholic faith was the steady center of her life, and she was a lifelong communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church.
Kathleen is survived by her loving children: John F. “Jack” Rigney, and his wife Karen of Briarcliff Manor, NY; Joseph M. Rigney and his wife Stephanie of Providence; and Patricia A. Reilly and her husband Bernie of Greenville. She was the cherished grandmother of Claire E. Rigney, Elaine P. Rigney and her husband Ti Pham, Michael J. Rigney, Sarah Rigney, Joseph M. Rigney, Jr. and his wife Noi, Hannah L. Pheland and her husband Timothy, Jeremiah J. Reilly, and Eric M. Reilly. She was also blessed with six great grandchildren: Sean Francisco, Isabel Francisco, Vivian Rigney, Violette Rigney, Timothy Pheland, and Eliette Pheland. Kathleen was the sister of P. Joseph Twohig and the late Mary T. Dillon.
Above all, Kathleen will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her family. Her strength, kindness, and faith shaped the lives of all who loved her.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, from 4:00–7:00 p.m. at the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence, RI. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral services starting at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29 at the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, 239 Regent Avenue, Providence, RI. Burial will follow at St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston, RI.
