

Leo J. McConaghy, 97, of Providence, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2014 at the Elmhurst Extended Care Facility, in Providence, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Ada S. (Kinnes) McConaghy.Born in East Providence, he was a son of the late Hugh and Margaret (McVeigh) McConaghy.Leo worked as a cutter sharpener for Brown & Sharpe Manufacturing Company for 38 years, prior to retirement.Mr. McConaghy was a communicant of Saint Patrick Church, and a volunteer handyman at the old Immaculate Conception and Saint Patrick School, and also assisted in painting the schools. In his earlier years, during the great depression, he had enrolled in several Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC Camps) performing various types of work.He leaves his children, Ada Graczyk, of PA, L. Patrick McConaghy, and his wife, Marie, of North Providence, Jeri Tapley, and her husband, Larry , of FL., Anne McConaghy, of FL, Mary DiBiase, of Providence, and John R. McConaghy, of FL; a brother, Hugh McConaghy; a sister, Eileen Fanella; 24 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. He was the father of the late William A. McConaghy and Hugh T. McConaghy.Leo's funeral will be held on Monday, January 13, 2014 at 8:30 am from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am, in Saint Patrick Church, 244 Smith Street, Providence. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston. Visiting Hours will be on Sunday, January 12, 2014 from 4-6 pm.
