Lillian G. (Volpe) Farland, age 98, of Cranston Street, Cranston passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on March 22, 2024. She was the loving wife of the late Anthony A. Farland.
Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Giovanni and Marie (Vento) Volpe.
Lillian was an assembler for various jewelry companies. She also did volunteer work for the RI Food Bank as well as Hasbro Children’s Hospital where she looked forward to holding and loving the babies that needed it, so that they could start life knowing how it felt to be cradled in love.
She was the beloved mother of Kathleen Ashby-Farland and her husband Douglas, Cindy Tiodor and her husband Jack, Lea Ferri and her husband Ronald and the late Robert Farland; cherished grandmother of Tori Heine, Robert and Shanon Farland and the late Jacob Tella; endearing great grandmother of Devyn, Zakary, Brandon, Shane, Alexis, and Michael. She was also the sister of Hercules Volpe, and the late Helen Petit, Jean Calise and Joseph and Matthew Volpe.
She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother in every way. Tender, supportive, nurturing, loyal, and loving most of the time; but, tough, when we deserved it. It was those every day little things of giving, loving and sharing that meant so much to us. She listened, she loved, she advised, and, when necessary, took action.
With older and wiser eyes we now look back and know that we were always loved in a very special way and that we have so much to be thankful for in having such a very special mother, grandmother and great grandmother in our lives. She was loved and liked by many and almost everyone she met wished that they were apart of her family. She embodied all that a mother should be, especially her nurturing and loving ways.
Her visitation and funeral will be held Friday, March 29, 2024 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. in the Pontarelli-Marino Home, 971 Branch Ave, Providence followed by a service in the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Burial to follow in R.I. Veteran Cemetery, Exeter.
