Ms. Linda Barlow

BARLOW, LINDA, 55, passed away peacefully at her home Saturday February 14, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Fall River, the daughter of the late Alexander Thomas and Edna (Sutherland) Barlow. She graduated from Wheaton College and received JD in law from Georgetown University. She practiced law at the MA Department of Mental Health for 28 years. She was a member of Temple Emanu-El. She was an animal lover and supported animal rights. Speaking on how respect for all animals resulted in a vegan lifestyle and volunteered as an event planner for the Boston Chapter of the International Vegan Association. She adopted and cherished many homeless cats. She volunteered at Forever Paws, Faxon Animal Rescue, and the Swansea Animal Shelter. She practiced animal rights law pro bono as a young woman in Washington, DC. Linda enjoyed a wide range of interests including ballet, theater, opera, and football. She volunteered her time to numerous cultural organizations in MA and RI throughout the years. She was also an avid reader. She is survived by her Beloved Cat Baby Bonnie the love of her life and family in Swansea, MA including aunts Edith Sutherland, Sally Morin, Lorraine Sutherland; Uncle Bruce Sutherland; cousin and caregiver Lisa Sutherland, cousins William Sutherlan II, Bruce Sutherland Jr., Mike Sutherland, and Marc Sutherland; and her dearest friends William Kinnane, Emily Houghton-Hughes, Trish DeMarco, Elaine Gerber, Jeammie Merari, Charlotte Benton, Karen Berman, Constance Kelsey, Wayne Allison, and Allen Gravell. She will be sadly missed by all. Linda wished to express her heartfelt gratitude to her colleagues at the MA Department of Mental Health for their donation of sick time during her illness. Funeral services will be held Wednesday February 18th at 11:00am at Temple Emanu-El, 99 Taft Avenue, Providence, RI 02906 with burial in Swan Point Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions in her memory may be made to the Swansea Animal Shelter, 68 Stevens Rd, Swansea, MA 02777. Shiva will be private.
