

NarragansettLouis Zavota, 80, of Hillsboro Circle, Port St. Lucie, Florida, and Narragansett, died Friday, February 6, 2009 at Port Saint Lucie Medical Center, Florida. He was the devoted husband of Sandra F. (Whetstine) Zavota. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Tomaso and Giuseppina (Piro) Zavota. Mr. Zavota was the co-owner of Zavota Brothers Trucking & Rigging Company for over forty years, retiring in 1986. He served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War. Beside his wife Sandra, he leaves a son, Anthony L. Zavota, of Scituate; a stepson, Michael Petrone, of North Providence; two stepdaughters; Tracy Merlino, of Cranston and Wanda LoBasso, of Deerfield Beach, Florida; five grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was a brother of the late Sr. Theresa M. Zavota, F.M.M., Josephine Uva, Anna, Peter, John, Frank, Joseph, and Anthony Zavota. The funeral will be held Friday, at 8:45 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saint Augustine Church, 639 Mount Pleasant Avenue, Providence. Burial, with military honors, will be in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours Thursday, 4 - 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary, 399 Fruit Hill Avenue, North Providence, RI 02911 in his memory will be appreciated.
