Manuel Barrows, Jr

Barrows, Manuel Jr., 83, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 31, 2012. He was the beloved husband of Leslie (Cooley) Barrows.Born in Falmouth, MA, he was the son of the late Manuel A. and Mary (Gomes) Barrows. He later moved to Providence and thensettled in Johnston.Manuel worked on the Providence waterfront as a Stevedore Foreman for Local ILA 1329 with John J. Orr and Son Company for 45 years until he retired in1993.He served in the Army during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion and AARP.Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Emanuel "Manny" Barrows and his wife Wanda of Rumford, Dr. Wayne J. Montague, Sr. and his wife Janice of Providence and three loving grandchildren, Wayne Jr. and Leslie Monique Montague and Aliya Barrows. He was the brother of the late Edwin, Alton, Ernest, Albert Barrows and Irene Roderick of Falmouth MA; and Marjorie Ben David of Providence.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at 9:30 am in the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith St., Providence. Burial with military honors will be held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. Visiting hours, Friday, 5-8 pm.
