Born in North Providence, she was the daughter of the late Armand and Marie (Ragosta) Vigeant and the beloved wife of the late Henry “Hank” Wolfenden.
Marie was the loving mother of Mark and his wife Mary Wolfenden, and Michael and his wife April Wolfenden. She was a cherished grandmother to Tamara, Bobbi, Heather, and Brandon, and an adored great-grandmother to Hazel, Ace, Corbin, and Krew. She was also the beloved sister of Armand, Anthony, and the late William “Billy” Vigeant.
She was known for her kindness, her love of family and friends, her card playing, and her unmistakable sense of style.
She met her husband Hank while the two were dance teachers. What began as a bit of friendly rivalry on the dance floor soon turned into a partnership that lasted a lifetime. They built a beautiful family and a life centered around being together.
Marie and Hank were longtime boaters who loved spending time on the water, whether it was overnight trips to Newport, day trips quahogging, or simply lounging on the dock with family close by.
Anyone who knew Marie knew that if she wasn’t on her boat or at home, the casino was the next place to look. She loved playing cards and, over decades of regular play, built many lasting friendships. She enjoyed the camaraderie, the strategy, and the simple joy of gathering around the table. Winning the High Hand was always a bonus.
Marie also had a style all her own. If you were looking for her in a crowd, you could usually find her thoughtfully dressed, often with a touch (or more than a touch) of animal print, with her hair freshly styled thanks to her standing Tuesday appointment at the salon.
She saw the best in people and would have given you the leopard-print shirt off her back. She was incredibly proud of her family and treasured the time they spent together. Sundays often meant Mexican Train with her immediate family, while cards and board games with her nieces and sister-in-law were a regular and beloved tradition. She loved sharing “coffee and” with those who stopped by to visit, especially her nieces, nephews, and brothers. Family time was always filled with laughter and love.
A true Italian at heart, Marie loved a good Sunday dinner and took great pride in making her famous meatballs and bringing everyone to the table. She was an avid reader, enjoyed a good Sudoku puzzle, and in recent years had been working on mastering her Kindle.
Her Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, from 9:00–10:30 a.m. at Romano Funeral Home, 626 Union Avenue, Providence, RI 02909.
Following the visitation, the family invites everyone to join them for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Rocco’s Church, 927 Atwood Avenue, Johnston, RI 02919.
Marie will be remembered with love and gratitude for the warmth she brought into the lives of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, but we take comfort in knowing that Hank and Marie are once again dancing together.
